Jenny Holzer’s “I shop, therefore I am” artwork makes us consider our consumer conscious.
As a ‘redefined clothing’ London label, we don’t underestimate the impact we have, and how our production process – reconfiguring existing clothing pieces into new garments – can be influenced by economic, social and cultural events.
With this in mind, here are some of our favourite bon mots by creatives and designers, reflecting on designing, consuming… and doing your own thing:
“The point is not to be popular. It is to be good.”
“Give ‘em what they never knew they wanted.”
“I don’t design clothes. I design dreams…”
“I’ve always said good taste is your taste. Don’t listen to anybody else. It’s what you like that matters.”
“People always told me what I was doing was something nobody wants. That was the best advice; it gave me the motivation to keep on doing what I was doing.”
“I’m not trying to make women look young or sexy, I want them to look important.
“Care for your clothes like the good friends they are.”
“Anything goes: if you want to wear a cravat with mismatched socks, knock yourself out.”
“I’m still working because I love fashion… I’ve never felt old because I’m happy.”
“Whoever said money can’t buy happiness simply didn’t know where to shop.”
