First identified in Ancient Egypt in 1350 – scarves have become one of the most versatile clothing accessories for men and women, due to their practical and comfort elements – providing modesty, colour, texture, warmth, coolness and softness. There could also be something more intrinsic behind the scarf’s appeal; the neck and shoulders are highly responsive to touch and in times of uncertainty, people look to clothing to give psychological comfort.
