Weekend

Over the years, certain clothing items have evolved to become associated with time off – ie, casual wear. Anything originally intended to be worn in the country, or for sport or utilitarian purposes, has been adopted for casual weekend wear. As a general guideline, the more visual evidence of a weave or texture in a fabric – such as corduroy – the more casual it’s deemed, just as patterns are considered less formal than plain items. Many of the most enduring – from houndstooth to Prince of Wales check – were originally reserved for less formal country wear.
